Solid Foundation

A lot of good scripting and decent art in this game, and the case gameplay is decent, though it doesn't really get mixed up too much as you progress.

I would have liked to see buildings or enemies firing back at me...something to add some urgency...the first few levels you could prettty much dodge anything... and the aiming reticle seemed a little off and got stuck on occassion.

Still, it was a good submission and I can't wait to see more dtuff from you as your skills get even better!

i love your games... thanks for the review.

Good start

Okay... first thinkg I want to say to everyone is that after playing this, I can tell XSDSX used my mini-putt games as an inspiration, however, the physics and control are just different enough that you can tell he did code it all himself. Knowing the challenges that go in to this type of game, I will say I am impressed with his coding skills and I forsee a bright future if he keeps pushing himself to do better and better. I was both flattered and dissapointed to see how close some of the hole designs were to the ones in my games, considering how well the totally orginal holes he made were done. I thought there could have been a bit more originality in the holes, wich would have helped this game stand out a bit more. The graphics were a little plain, even for a simple game like mini golf, but as a whole it is a solid game with good replay value.

I really hope you take the constructive critiscicm along with the bad, because you definately have the talent to out-do this game. Tighten up your coding skills a little and put some more love in to the art when you do your next game and I guarentee, as a creator, you will have even more pride, and your new fans will thank you for your work.

Drop it like it's hot!

XSDSX responds:

I think you hit the nail right on the head with your review. I had always wanted to make a mini-golf game so I decided to give it a shot. Your game was very well designed and as such I tried to take as much of that as possible while at the same time making it somewhat original. Some of the holes I had absolutely no idea what to do so I looked to your game for ideas. This was mainly an experiment and it was never in my intention for this to make the front-page. I had simply wanted to work on my physics programming in Flash. Thank you very much for your comments, as they were very well thought out and didn't just simply flame me for "ripping-off mini-putt 2". I will take your points into consideration, although I do not plan on making another Mini-Golf game at this time. There's much more out there that I have yet to discover.

Nice Job

Okay people, listen up... I appreciate that so many of you are dedicated fans of my mini putt gamnes, but let me tell you right now... this game engine, although very similar, is also a lot more advanced. Did any of you even notice that jato here has ANGLED WALLS? even the fine touches like the rotating putter are impressive. This is was a great programming job, and I think it deserves mad props.... besides... I'm not making any more mini-putt games, so who else is gonna give you your fix?

Good attempt

While the game itself isn't done very well, I do see fid this to be a great attempt, and I see that fospher is very close to becoming an excellent game programmer.

What I liked:

The basic platform engine. It's not all that simple to make a game where you can move around freely and land on different height levels.

The boss. There was definate room for improvement with the fluidity of the boss, but that aside, you did a great job creating an attack pattern. Making an enemy preform multiple attacks and move about while maintaining collision detection is another of those things that takes skill.

What I disliked:

First thing I didn't like was the sluggish speed of the game. Speed up the frame rate or whatever you need to do to get it running more fluidly and that would make the game a lot more fun.

Megaman's weapon. While being able to charge your blast power was cool, I really didn't like having 2 buttons to shoot back and forward. I would suggest adding a variable that you can use to track megaman's direction and based on that, call the appropriate weapon direction. Also, you should use the DuplicateMovieClip command to allow for multiple bullets... it was really annoying to have the bullet vanish when I hit fire again.

As stated earlier, I see a lot of potential... don't let the bad reviews get you down... just consider them people who need to be proven wrong, and work on your flash skills.

Pretty good

As far as gameplay went, it was simple, yet fun. One thing I would suggest if you ever make a sequal.. use collision detection instead of mouse-overs, all you need to do is click the right button to make the menu appear and you can drive without ever hitting anything.

Style was the strong suit here... a lot of people don't put effort into pre-loader and selection screen layouts, but yours were done quite professionally. Style like that can make a simple game seem cooler somehow.

Keep up the good work

oddly entertaining

You ought to put more 'just goofing around' projects online just for shits n' giggles!

Funny stuff

I pissed my pants the first time I saw this

She had it coming

Ah that felt good, I've been wantin' to maim that demonic pepsi girl for a long time, and now thanks to your creativity I can do so without any legal reprecautions..thank you jato, you have done the world a service!

jato responds:

heheheh! it needed to be done. thanks, i'm glad you like it. p3ac3!

You need a book deal with Schoolastic!

Great concept, you can never go wrong with twisting childrens stories...and even better if you do it as a pop-up book... extremely creative in story and presentation and the artwork was pretty good too! I'll be watching for more from you in the future for sure!

Great concept

This is very similar in concept to a game I'm currently working on so I'm a bit biased, but it really is a great base for a game. If you expanded on this and added a little more interactivity, actual levels and improved graphics, you would have a sequal that would dominate the portal. I really liked the top view driving part in spite the fact the road was completely straight... it's tough to make a simple game work, but you pulled it off quite well...kudos!
