This came out really good! Took me forever to find the last item, but I eventually got there.

Finally got to sit down and properly enjoy this!
I've been wanting a new TD game for some time now, and this didn't disappoint.
Loved everything that was in here, especially the little secret characters you can click for extra gold. The boss fight element worked really well, especially in tandem with the themed areas. The only thing missing is an option to increase the playback speed, but given that this was a jam game AND it was in Flash, I will give that a pass lol.
Would love to see a bigger sequel some day with some more tower types, areas, upgrades and enemies. This is my jam, and I want MORE!
Thank you for finding the time! It sound like you're a connoisseur of Tower Defense games, so the fact that you enjoyed it means a lot.
You of all people can understand how crazy implementing a "speed up" function would be in AS2. I won't say it's impossible, but rolling my own timer based event system instead of using Flash's built-in "enterFrame" system is cray... If it was as3, no prob, you can control frame-rate on the fly and going from 30 fps --> 60 fps would be a breeze... but in as2??? Maybe I'm just a chicken/creature of habit...
Making this a full-featured game would be a dream...
I really really like this concept a lot! I've been enjoying Wordle, and I am a sucker for a good Tower Defense game.
I do wish the word game behaved a bit more like the game it's based on (which you've already addressed in the comments), but that's a small gripe.
More than anything, I wish it was playable on mobile. The cat character, while 100% on-brand, feels a bit unnecessary, when you could just click the screen to collect gems. You'd probably have to build an on-screen keyboard though, so there is that.
Desktop only does suck though, especially when posting scores to Twitter, where most people seeing them are likely on their phone.
On that note, ADD A DAMN LINK BACK TO THE GAME on those posts. We need more people to check this game out!!!! Maybe even take a page from Wordle and have a 'copy to clipboard' option so people can share anywhere!
We can make this shit spread like Covid!
To hear such high praise from you, means a lot! And yeah, most of the design choices are a bit SQUASHED together, but I made this game as a challenge to create a full game in under 48 hours. If I gave myself a whole week, most of this would've been addressed.
I wanted to have the cat character pick up the turrets and move them, but it was just move fun to select and place them with the mouse. Little things like that, that ended up leaving big holes elsewhere. Oh welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Came out great! Very faithful to the original. My only critique is that it would be nice if there was some visual feedback when you are shooting things.
Sometimes it feels like maybe it's not working when you click and nothing visual happens.
Other than that, it has all that Pico charm, but feels way more modern.
Yeah I think some minor things like more visual feedback is in order for a patch :D
Thanks for helping this game get finished duuude!
Man, someone should host a Kenney Creature Mixer game jam!
So good, but you should totally add touch controls for mobile!
Thanks! That's definitely on the agenda for bug fixes + improvements. Hopefully over the next week or so I'll be able to get that done.
This was fun. Love the aesthetic, and the speech bubble abilities have a lot of potential as the gimmick for a larger game (different words for different abilities maybe?).
A lot of the jumps are really frustrating due to a mix of floaty physics and brutal hitboxes (I actually cheated using the speech bubble to fly in a few places), but I think with just some minor tweaking here and there you guys could end up with a really tight game, and I wanna see more from this team!
Holy smokes, thanks! Yeah there are some serious collision and balance issues I need to fix. I've already fixed a few but I can't implement until after judgement.
thanks again though :)
LOVE IT

I didn't get too far, but loving what I played so far! Definitely coming back to replay this when I have more time.
This is abviously a really simple demo game, but I think you have a really solid idea and would love to see you build on it more.
